i have been out bow hunting the last 3 weeks, or maybe more ?? for the most part i hang my cloths out every day and try to make my scent as light as possible i sprayed a Pete Rickard's doe in heat on the trail i have been seeing lots of deer ,well does some will come down the trail as usual until the get 20 yards then freak, they know something is up (yea me or the spray) really i was cool with that, no pointers the next day the area sprayed would be tore up with scrape had me wondering
my son who just got into bow hunting bought this commercial spray, scent-away so i figure spray away i go out back and a trophy 9 pointer walks within range but in brush not offering a shot (a gun it would have been down) has no clue I'm there and stays in cover so i can not shoot, bye, bye 20 Min's. later a 6 pointer starts in and takes 1 whiff , see ya.
i guess what I'm asking ,posting , do you use scents or cover ups ? i never took much stock in them

Depends on the direction of the wind...

Al, no offense but thats pretty vague ;D do you scent ? i mean at least where i hunt the wind esp in the fall changes direction and even becomes swirling back to topic: my grandfathers scent was a white owl cigar, my great uncles scent was a nasty jerky he made (that i remember) they used to supply food for the town in the depression era than my dad came into the group in the 50's and his scent was a Winston when i came along these 3 together harvested more than i'll ever see in my lifetime so i never put much stock into the commercial grade scents (not to say they grew their own )

Well, for the last two "area moves" my first two years involved hunting limited areas (I hadn't had enough experience or access). So when I am dying to hunt on a day when the wind will not be in my favor, I hid behind scent wafers (Tink*69). Never worked. On windless days or when my watch let the wind in my face, I consistently saw deer...even when in a tree stand (about 12 feet up).
I learned to hunt in Montana. Out there, they "still hunt" and check the wind and have 5 or 6 spots from which to choose...so wind is rarely an issue.
I don't worry about wearing scent anymore, just about the wind. My goal for hunting is to put food for liketohike and me on the table. So, spending more money on gadgets, like scent, is not in my budget.
I think that is why I fly fish, I rarely harvest so there's more to the sport...and as result I can easily justify the super expensive high-end gear and clothing.
